What we can promise, and what nobody can

Snow service is the one thing we sell where the honest version is less appealing than what some companies advertise. We'd rather you know how it really goes.

Service happens in route order

During a significant event we work a route, and we can't be at every property first. What we can tell you is roughly where you sit in that route and what a typical event looks like for your address. Anyone promising a specific clearing time to every customer during a major storm is telling several of them something that can't be true.

Clearing reduces hazards. It doesn't eliminate them.

This matters enough that it's in our terms as well. A cleared and salted surface is far safer than an untouched one, but it is not a guaranteed-safe surface. Ice re-forms, meltwater refreezes overnight, and a thaw-refreeze cycle can make a swept walk slick by morning. You remain responsible for monitoring your own property.

During a long storm, one pass isn't the job

When snow falls for twelve hours, clearing once at hour three doesn't leave you clear at hour twelve. Depending on the arrangement, heavy events may mean returning — and during a big one, everyone on the route needs a first pass before anyone gets a second.

De-icing products have trade-offs

Salt and de-icers can affect concrete, damage plantings along the edges, and irritate pets' paws. There are gentler products and there are more effective ones, and they're rarely the same product. Tell us up front if you have concerns and we'll work to it.

Mark your edges before the snow comes

Plows and shovels catch what they can't see. Landscape lighting, sprinkler heads, low walls, edging and decorative rock along a driveway all disappear under six inches of snow. Staking or removing them in the fall prevents the most common kind of winter damage.
